artist statement
"As I begin each piece, I try to relinquish some responsibility for what the first mark will be.
I do this with a blind first stroke. With my eyes closed and mind clear, the direction of the painting is born from this state of non-thinking. Through this process I’m learning patience and non-judgement but more importantly; trust.
I trust that the theme will make itself known to me. I then enhance it to my best ability. I try not to squeeze the narrative too tightly as I don’t want to tell the viewer what to see. I want there to always be room for the viewer’s own influences to make their mark.
That’s the beauty of abstract art I think, it allows you to be who you are when you look at it, there's no judgment, no right or wrong."
