biography

Coming from a creative home, Rosie grew up translating her ideas through many forms and mediums. Studying in Wellington, she explored the drama in seascapes and portraiture. Now based in Taranaki, she exhibits across the country as an abstract artist. Rosie was awarded second place in the Signature Promotions Award at the 2019 NZ Art show and selected as a Parkin Drawing prize finalist in 2020.

artist statement

"As I begin each piece, I try to relinquish some responsibility for what the first mark will be.

I do this with a blind first stroke. With my eyes closed and mind clear, the direction of the painting is born from this state of non-thinking. Through this process I’m learning patience and non-judgement but more importantly; trust.

I trust that the theme will make itself known to me. I then enhance it to my best ability. I try not to squeeze the narrative too tightly as I don’t want to tell the viewer what to see. I want there to always be room for the viewer’s own influences to make their mark.

That’s the beauty of abstract art I think, it allows you to be who you are when you look at it, there's no judgment, no right or wrong."
